The Tarot is a set of seventy-eight illustrated cards. The
tarot consists of a Major and Minor arcana (see below), each card depicts a
symbolic representation of possible circumstance's in life.
The major arcana: The Fool, The Magician,
The High Priestess. The Empress, The Emperor, The Hierophant, The Lovers, The
Chariot, Strength, The Hermit, Wheel of Fortune, Justice, The Hanged Man,
Death, Temperance, The Devil, The Tower, The Star, The Moon, The Sun,
Judgment, and The World.
The minor arcana consist of 56 cards,
divided into four suits of 14 cards each: ten numbered cards and four court
cards. The court cards are the page, the knight, the queen and the king. The
traditional Italian suits are swords, batons, coins and cups; in modern tarot
decks, however, the batons suit is often called wands, rods or staves, while
the coins suit is often called pentacles or disks.
The exact origins of the tarot are unknown; however, the
earliest references of tarot exist with regard to the use of them in a game
in 15th century
Italy
. The first use of the tarot for divination purposes is not known but
we do know that documented examples have been found dating after the 18th
century. There is evidence that a deck of cards was used for divination
purposes in 1540 through a book called The Oracles of Francesco Marcolino
da Forli which shows a simple method of divination using the coin suit of
a regular playing card deck. Esoteric students place the origin of the
tarot in Ancient Egypt or Ancient India.
Tarot cards have been used for Centuries to
assist in 'Seeing' the future. But can they really
predict the future? No, they cannot! It is in the hands of a Seer, Psychic,
or Spiritually balanced
individual or set of circumstance however, that the cards CAN reveal what the
future may hold.
There are many different ways in society today that have been
publicized or taught with regards to how exactly the Tarot should be read.
Are they all right? Well, for their perceptive creator they may be.
The idea behind the Tarot is literally to 'Tap into your own
ability' to see your way clear to the truth of your life path. Or in the case
of having someone else read your cards, to have the truth of your path
revealed through the ability of the Interpreter.
Can you read Tarot? Yes you can! Should you buy a Deck of cards
from a store? Well, that is up to you, but if you choose to do this, you
should choose your deck by what images 'Move' you emotionally and physically.
Read through the information supplied by the cards Creator regarding what
each card represents, but keep an open mind, some representations may be
Far-Fetched to say the least!
Does it sound to you like we are a bit skeptical here? Well, if
it does, it's because we are, especially when it comes to purchasing a set of
prefabricated cards. Sarah has been reading the Tarot since the age of 8. But
her first deck of Tarot cards were NOT pre-fabricated, she created her Own
deck! By learning first how many cards are meant to be in a deck of Tarot
cards, and what each card represents in each persons life, from love to
business, you can prepare yourself to create your own deck. Just because the
instructions in the Tarot booklet state that a specific card represents a
specific circumstance, this does NOT mean that your own ability agrees!
Consider researching the tarot, look at all the different
depictions of the characters on each card from
different companies, you'll see exactly what we mean. Look into the
descriptions of each card offered by
each company also. When something in this life becomes popular, everyone with
2 pennies to rub together
tries to buy their way into it. Unfortunately, that's the world we live in.
But we don't have to believe
the hype! We can choose to learn for ourselves the truth and then make our
decisions from there.
